Nanomedicine
Research into nanoparticle-based diagnostics and therapeutics that act selectively within complex biological systems.

INTERNATIONAL NANOTME SOCIETY — LAUNCHED 2025 - CONFERENCES SINCE 2021
An international scientific society convening researchers, clinicians, industry leaders and students to shape the next generation of cancer therapies — across disciplines, across continents.

The Society
The tumor microenvironment shapes how cancers grow, spread, and respond to therapy. Nanomedicine offers an unprecedented set of tools to act within that environment — precisely, selectively, and adaptively. The NanoTME Society exists to accelerate the exchange between these two disciplines, and to translate that exchange into better outcomes for patients.
Convening nano-engineers, immunologists, oncologists and clinicians around shared questions and shared standards.
Carrying discoveries across the gap that separates the bench from the bedside.
Supporting the next generation through conferences, workshops and mentorship programs.
A working network of institutions across academia, hospitals and industry.
A note from the co-chairs
“The interface between nanomedicine and the tumor microenvironment is where the most consequential questions in cancer therapy are now being asked. Our Society exists so that the answers can be found together — across laboratories, hospitals, disciplines, and borders.”

Co-chair
A long-standing research programme on the systemic and microenvironmental response of the host to anti-cancer therapy, and on the mechanisms by which treatment shapes resistance and metastasis.
Research focus
Host response to anti-cancer therapy · tumor microenvironment · resistance mechanisms
“The interface between nanomedicine and the tumor microenvironment is where the most consequential questions in modern oncology are now being asked. The Society exists so that those questions can be addressed together.”

Co-chair
A research programme on stromal targeting and engineered nanomedicine for solid tumors, with a translational orientation across academia, clinic and industry.
Research focus
Targeted nanomedicine · stromal targeting · advanced 3D tumor models
“NanoTME was conceived as a working community. Three editions in, it has become the place where engineers, biologists and clinicians can speak the same language — and design experiments together.”
Scientific advisory board
A short history
2021
The first NanoTME conference is held online, drawing an enthusiastic international audience and laying the groundwork for an ongoing scientific dialogue at the interface of nanomedicine and the tumor microenvironment.
2023
NanoTME 2023 is held 8 — 10 May at the UPark hotel on the University of Twente campus, in collaboration with the International Cancer Microenvironment Society.
2025
NanoTME 2025 takes place 5 — 8 May at the Van der Valk hotel in Enschede with 22 invited speakers, 14 short talks, ~35 posters and ~75 participants worldwide. Yuval Shaked and Jai Prakash officially launch the NanoTME Society.
2025—
The Society formalises cross-institutional working groups, opens membership to investigators worldwide, and establishes structured collaborations with affiliated scientific societies.
Next
Planning is underway for the next edition of the NanoTME conference, expanded educational programming for early-career members, and continued growth of the international scientific community.
Vision
Across the coming decade, the Society aims to become the established international home for research at the interface of nanomedicine and the tumor microenvironment — anchoring collaboration, education and translation.
Featured research
Conference proceedings
Twenty-two invited lectures and fourteen selected short talks across nanomedicine, tumor microenvironment biology, and translational oncology, with proceedings curated by the scientific committee.
Member publications
Society members publish across leading journals in cancer research, drug delivery and immuno-oncology, with collaborative manuscripts emerging directly from conference exchanges.
Emerging directions
Current scientific priorities include stromal targeting, immune modulation through nano-carriers, advanced 3D tumor models, and the rational design of combination therapies.
